So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter (2 Thess. 2:15). Guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the godless chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge, for by professing it some have missed the mark as regards faith (1 Tim. 6:21-22).

Word to the wise: DO NOT engage in rumour mongering.

Collect for Septuagesima Sunday
O Lord, we beseech Thee favourably to hear the prayers of Thy people: that we, who are justly punished for our offences, may be mercifully delivered by Thy goodness, for the glory of thy Name, through Jesus Christ Thy Son our Lord, Who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Spirit, ever one God, world without end. Amen.
(Divine Worship: the Missal, Ordinariate of the Chair of Saint Peter)
Who gossips to you will gossip about you.

It is wrong to tempt others into idle and therefore useless mind games which only serve to make people angry or sad or arrogant and self righteous, games which cloud minds and damn souls.

DO NOT, if you are Catholic, engage in rumour mongering. Gossip is, and has been, the downfall of many a good and faithful Catholic. True concern for another person, especially someone made vulnerable by sin, manifests as compassionate speech, not condescension.

Gossip kills the life of God in the soul; it maims relationships divine and human.

Refuse to participate in rumour mongering. Resist gossiping by observing a prudent silence and by simply lowering one's head in disapproval at such behaviour. Pray for the gossiper, and ask God for the grace that you may not think ill thoughts toward anyone. Recall the Cross, the price of our salvation.
But I say to you that every one who looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in his heart.—excerpt from the Holy Gospel of St Matthew (5:17-37) for Septuagesima.
DO NOT CEDE YOUR LIFE TO TEMPTATION. Instead, PRAY: 1) for the Holy Father; 2) for the protection of souls; 3) for Holy Mother Church. Do not stop praying. Do not yield to the temptation to gossip which traps the attention and imprisons intention in a web of self righteousness. Do not indulge temptations which threaten to drag you down to perdition because an unholy fascination (speculation) robs the soul of charity and fogs the otherwise clear lens of goodwill toward our brothers and sisters.

TRUST IN THE LORD. Do not doubt for a second that the Holy Spirit is at work this very moment to overcome the threat posed by conniving cardinals and bishops, priests and laymen. Bigger than any one of us, this Roman circus is. So, pray.

"A multitude of wise men is the salvation of the world(.)—Wisdom 6:24. Readers are welcome to make rational and responsible comments. Any comment that 1) offends human dignity and/or 2) which constitutes an irrational attack on the Catholic Faith will not go unchallenged. If deemed completely stupid, such a comment will most assuredly not see the light of day. Them's the rules. Don't like 'em? Move on.
