So then, brethren, stand firm and hold to the traditions which you were taught by us, either by word of mouth or by letter (2 Thess. 2:15). Guard what has been entrusted to you. Avoid the godless chatter and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge, for by professing it some have missed the mark as regards faith (1 Tim. 6:21-22).

The Domineering

Have you ever met someone who makes every conversation about everything she ever knew and knows about, and yet she lacks the basic awareness that no one wants to listen to anything she has to say because, frankly, she's a bully, a braggart—and a domineering parent, to boot—who sets boundaries for everyone else but herself?

Or, the nosey parker who thinks himself entitled to know everything about you? A man who has no respect for the privacy of others? A man whose politics blind him to the fact he's a little (liberal) Hitler?

Parishes are full of the wounded. A few pious folk do strive to overcome their human foibles. Many others use parishes like their own personal dumping grounds (toxic waste dumps? septic fields?) to frequently unload baggage on some poor pastor or concerned layperson without seriously confronting their difficulties (sins...) and converting from their emotional storms. Such people, when confronted, tend to lash out at those who are attempting to help them. They attack vulnerable pastors or meek laity and, when someone happens to request they should hold their tongue and mind their own business, run off in a huff spreading lies about their former pastors and parishes. What's a priest to do?
Numbers 11:11-12
Moses said to the Lord, “Why hast thou dealt ill with thy servant? And why have I not found favor in thy sight, that thou dost lay the burden of all this people upon me? Did I conceive all this people? Did I bring them forth, that thou shouldst say to me, ‘Carry them in your bosom, as a nurse carries the sucking child,’ to the land which thou didst swear to give their fathers?
One thing both liberal and ultra-conservative tyrants have in common is that, when challenged, they are quick to scapegoat others and blame everyone else for their own misbehaviour and/or pain. They tend to concoct elaborate conspiracies to deflect attention away from their flaws even while wallowing in their misery and acting out to draw attention to "poor lil ol' me". They drink the poison of a grudge expecting the other person to die.
