We are not just material beings, but spiritual persons with a need for meaning, purpose, and fulfillment that transcends the visible confines of this world. This longing for transcendence is a longing for truth, goodness, and beauty. Truth, goodness, and beauty are called the transcendentals of being, because they are aspects of being. Everything in existence has these transcendentals to some extent. God, of course, as the source of all truth, goodness, and beauty, has these transcendentals to an infinite degree. Oftentimes, he draws us to himself primarily through one of these transcendentals. St. Augustine, who was drawn to beauty in all its creaturely forms, found the ultimate beauty he was seeking in God, his creator, the beauty “ever ancient, ever new.”―Sister Gabriella Yi, O.P.

Dear American cousins, we feel your political pain.

With leaders like the Democrat and Republican presidential candidates, who needs enemas?

We in Canada have repeatedly faced a similar if not the same conundrum of having to vote for candidates whose qualifications and motivations leave much to be desired. Take Trudeau, for instance. No, please, take him away. You can have him! Trudeau has made it very clear that conscience and the dignity of life are meaningless to him. Just ask the Archbishop of Edmonton what he thinks about the behaviour of Justin the Shirtless.

A well formed conscience is usually accompanied by anxiety. Anxiety, but not doubt concerning the right course of action to take. No serious person has ever said being Catholic would be easy.
The sole and basic source of our strength is the solidarity of workers, peasants and the intelligentsia, the solidarity of the nation, the solidarity of people who seek to live in dignity, truth, and in harmony with their conscience.—Lech Walesa
As various pundits weigh in on the current political hornet's nest, writers whose political acumen far exceeds yours truly, and they offer their sympathy, empathy or... whatever.

Remember the following as you proceed in peace to the ballot box.
The current trajectory in which American society is headed will be aided or halted by one of the candidates. The aforementioned trajectory is not a good direction and should be halted, otherwise inalienable freedoms enshrined in the founding documents of the American experiment will be emptied of any remaining meaning.
One candidate's policies harmonize with the Obama legacy, the path upon which President Obama has set America from day one of his presidency. The other candidate's policies, perhaps confused by the candidate's bombastic behaviour, may not be the most well thought out (government policies rarely meet with everyone's approval), but he understands well enough that America is at a turning point and cannot continue down the Obama road.
Whatever happens in the days remaining,—email reveals, poorly expressed opinions, media feeding frenzies or media fawning, crass or controversial behaviour—look at the likely direction in which each candidate's policies would point America if he or she is elected.
A lie gets halfway around the world before the truth has a chance to get its pants on.—Winston Churchill
Can you vote for someone who, according to Director Comey of the FBI, placed national security at risk? Had she been an everyday citizen like you, she would be standing trial for her repeatedly careless behaviour.
(T)here is evidence that (Hillary Clinton and her colleagues) were extremely careless in their handling of very sensitive, highly classified information.

For example, seven e-mail chains concern matters that were classified at the Top Secret/Special Access Program level when they were sent and received. These chains involved Secretary Clinton both sending e-mails about those matters and receiving e-mails from others about the same matters. There is evidence to support a conclusion that any reasonable person in Secretary Clinton’s position, or in the position of those government employees with whom she was corresponding about these matters, should have known that an unclassified system was no place for that conversation. In addition to this highly sensitive information, we also found information that was properly classified as Secret by the U.S. Intelligence Community at the time it was discussed on e-mail (that is, excluding the later “up-classified” e-mails).

None of these e-mails should have been on any kind of unclassified system, but their presence is especially concerning because all of these e-mails were housed on unclassified personal servers not even supported by full-time security staff, like those found at Departments and Agencies of the U.S. Government—or even with a commercial service like Gmail.
Other than media spin, what leads anyone to believe that circumstances would be any different if someone with such practiced habits of lying to protect herself (and whose lies have adversely affected others) and engaging in subterfuge to achieve her political ambitions would suddenly act with integrity once in possession of the highest office of the land?
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.—Proverbs 12:22
The office of President of the United States has become something of a plaything of special interest groups. Who best can reorient the Office to its original purpose? Who best will honour the privilege of such an august position? Who, for example, was first to visit and, more than a photo op, helped distribute supplies to the flood victims in Louisiana even before a sitting president who, in his own bid for office, chastised a former president for his inaction in similar circumstances? It would seem that Democrats and their allies were quick to attack George Bush when he hesitated, but their man, who was equally unwilling to interrupt a vacation to be with people hard hit by natural disaster, gets a pass.
Lying lips are an abomination to the Lord, but those who act faithfully are his delight.—Proverbs 12:22
Whose leadership is a lie perpetuated by lies (confirmed by the discovery of classified emails on a private server and the public record)?

One candidate is brash. The other is a consummate liar. One has a vice presidential running mate—Pence—who has consistently defended the unborn. The other's running mate—Kaine, a "Catholic"—defends pro-choice sophistry.
