We are not just material beings, but spiritual persons with a need for meaning, purpose, and fulfillment that transcends the visible confines of this world. This longing for transcendence is a longing for truth, goodness, and beauty. Truth, goodness, and beauty are called the transcendentals of being, because they are aspects of being. Everything in existence has these transcendentals to some extent. God, of course, as the source of all truth, goodness, and beauty, has these transcendentals to an infinite degree. Oftentimes, he draws us to himself primarily through one of these transcendentals. St. Augustine, who was drawn to beauty in all its creaturely forms, found the ultimate beauty he was seeking in God, his creator, the beauty “ever ancient, ever new.”―Sister Gabriella Yi, O.P.

Clinton, Trump, leftspeak and media spin.

Let's face it folks, we Canadians enjoyed the protection of the American military for the duration of the Cold War. Much of our defence structure is woven together with that of our American cousins. Because the American president is the Commander in Chief of the United States military, it matters to Canadians who the President of the United States of America is and what he or she stands for.

The behaviour of both candidates vying for the Office of President leaves much to be desired. Granted, few presidents have demonstrated unimpeachable characters. However, when the going gets really tough and, given the many signs appearing around the world, the times are getting tough, who do we want in the White House? A pie-in-the-sky liberal who promotes dependence upon the nanny state, someone who draws red lines in the sand only to keep erasing said line which then allows terrorists to expand their grasp on lands and allows the same DAESH Islamist militants to commit genocide? Or, do we want someone who is resilient, who understands human nature? Someone, that is, who will stand up to injustice and knows how to help people by inspiring them to invest in a common cause to help them realize their potential together?

The State of the Union

The Canadian government, like the American, is an entity that purports to exist to serve the common good. Canadians recently elected a Prime Minister who stated, on record, that he opposes freedom of conscience for his party members, which necessarily means he opposes freedom of conscience for all citizens, period. Recently, this conviction was confirmed as the Liberal government attempted to write into legislation not just permission for doctors to kill patients but the requirement that doctors who object to cooperating in an evil act must give "effective referrals" to another "healthcare provider" —aka, a doctor willing to help a patient commit suicide, in effect turning the physician into a murderer—which, because he would be forced to make a referral, means the objecting physician would be, nonetheless, robbed of his right to conscientiously object, i.e., his right to refuse to participate in the killing of a human being.

President Obama's administration and an activist Supreme Court have done more to marginalize religious freedom and freedom of conscience than any other American administration in history. The impact on Catholic health care organizations is a well known story.

The point is, liberal or progressive or socialist ideologues think they know better than the rest of us how people should live their lives. And we have allowed them to take over our countries and make our fellow citizens' dependent on the state. Threatened by the religious voice, i.e., the voice of conscience and personal responsibility, liberals do their damnedest to marginalize the one voice that challenges and dismantles the progressive myth that liberals can build heaven on earth... if only people swallowed their socialist tripe. Said tripe has repeatedly failed to lift people out of poverty. Socialism merely robs people of initiative, creativity, trust and liberty. People who live in socialist states, however velvety soft the socialism may appear to be, live in fear of offending the state and its socialist ideology.

Sleeping with the Clintons

The media cushion upon which left wing parties rest their greasy swollen heads is much soiled. One political party and its queen candidate for White House is all too happy to be sleeping on dirty sheets. The emails confirm it.

HILLARY-US

"(Hillary) Clinton says, 'I will take responsibility for any impression or anything I've ever done that people have legitimate questions about.' This quote is so full of qualifiers as to render it almost meaningless."Aaron Blake, The Washington Post, July 25th
[FACT]: Hillary Clinton lied on three occasions to distract people from learning about her "'extremely careless' handling of classified information". She denied that, as Secretary of State, she sent, received and/or stored classified emails on her private server. Contrary to Clinton's claim that emails were retroactively classified, the FBI report delivered by Director Comey confirmed that emails were classified at the time said emails were stored by Clinton on her private server.
[MEDIA SPIN]: Clinton is struggling with authenticity.
DEFLECTION  |  IT'S ALL TRUMP'S FAULT

It makes one a better person to have had hardships and to have overcome hardships and not to blame anybody else for your mistakes.—Maureen Forrester

We must reject the idea that every time a law's broken, society is guilty rather than the lawbreaker. It is time to restore the American precept that each individual is accountable for his actions.—Ronald Reagan
[FACT] DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz resigned in the wake of revelations that Democratic National Committee officials conspired to marginalize Bernie Sanders' campaign.
[SPIN] Hillary deserves to win (at all costs) because she's a woman. And besides, it's all Putin's fault that damning emails were released because he wants Trump to win. Therefore, Trump is to blame for the release of the emails.
POLLYANNA POLITICS  |  DEMOCRATS IN DENIAL

The world is a dangerous place to live; not because of the people who are evil, but because of the people who don't do anything about it.—Albert Einstein

Let us be sure that those who come after will say of us in our time, that in our time we did everything that could be done. We finished the race; we kept them free; we kept the faith.—Ronald Reagan
[FACT] This past year there have been massive unprecedented attacks by Islamist terrorists, Islamist sympathizers or lone-wolf attackers who have killed hundreds and wounded thousands of innocent victims: Orlando (49 killed/53 wounded); Munich (9); Baghdad (325); Nice (84/303); San Bernardino (140); and Paris (130/368), to list but a few. Additional information: LINK.
[SPIN] The world isn't as bad as Donald Trump says it is. Our enemies are just misunderstood. Hillary is so caring and positive and... .
Who's scarier, someone (Churchill) informing you that the barbarians are at the gate and are thirsty for (your) blood and that freedom loving people must stand up to wicked men, or someone (Chamberlain) who thinks that by inviting the barbarians in for tea and scones will appease them, sate their appetite for conquest and make the world a safer place?

Consider the counsel of the following fear mongerers.
The cost of freedom is always high, but Americans have always paid it. And one path we shall never choose, and that is the path of surrender, or submission.—John F. Kennedy
A people that values its privileges above its principles soon loses both.—Dwight D. Eisenhower
But you must remember, my fellow-citizens, that eternal vigilance by the people is the price of liberty, and that you must pay the price if you wish to secure the blessing. It behooves you, therefore, to be watchful in your States as well as in the Federal Government.—Andrew Jackson, Farewell Address, 1837.
They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.Benjamin Franklin, 1759.
